Prison Yoga Project

Our mission is to bring the rehabilitative value of yoga and mindfulness into American prisons.

About Us

Prison Yoga Project
We train yoga teachers and yogis with committed practices to teach in prisons, jails, rehab and reentry facilities and help other trauma-impacted communities. More than 1,800 PYP-trained teachers are teaching hundreds of classes a year in more than 200 American prisons and jails in 24 states!. We’ve given more than 17,000 copies of our book “Yoga a Path for Healing and Recovery” to prisoners free, to keep up their practices. We create programs and products, advocate with prison officials, and provide training materials. You can imagine the value of a yoga practice to a prisoner in confinement 23/7 or 24/7 for months on end. When more prisoners are practicing yoga, suffering declines, prison culture changes, public safety is improved.

Prison Yoga Project

Change a prisoner's life!

You may never set foot in a prison, but you can change a prisoner’s life. The U.S. has only 4% of the world’s population but 25% of its prisoners. Volatile living conditions spike anxiety, stress, violence and addiction. Little effort is made to rehabilitate prisoners or address the fundamental issues that got them in trouble. Thanks to people like you, hundreds of prisoners have transformed their lives through our groundbreaking yoga and mindfulness programs. Through yoga, prisoners begin to reconnect more deeply with themselves and others. Where love is so sorely lacking, the transformation is profound. Will you help us accelerate our efforts? Even the smallest donation can have significant impact.  Please Donate now.
